JUNK CULTURE
Phantogram is an American electronic rock duo from Greenwich, New York, consisting of guitarist Josh Carter and keyboardist Sarah Barthel.

Phantogram's unique dance-friendly sound has helped them play as opening acts for more established bands such as Zero 7, Ra Ra Riot, Yeasayer, Brazilian Girls and The Slip. They've also performed at the SXSW festival in 2009 and are scheduled to play at Camp Bisco in July 2009. Barthel has said of their sound, "We wanted to incorporate all our own influences and created our own sound that's a combination of Serge Gainsbourg, sampling and Detroit hip-hop. In interviews, the band has described their sound concisely under the genre of "street beat, psych pop." The genre comes from a blog post written by fellow Saratoga Spring musician Matthew Loiacano, who described Phantogram's sound as "street beat, psych pop" after seeing them perform with Yeasayer at Skidmore College.

Scott Miller blends folk and rock like there ain't no words for. The power of storytelling with the power of a compressed electric guitar comes through this Virginian not heard since the likes of Wayne Newton (fellow Virginian) or The Statler Brothers (also of the Commonwealth.) Not even since Thomas Jefferson (Virginian) and Woodrow Wilson (another Virginian) formed their rock trio with drummer Stewart Copeland (northern Virginian) "League of Nations".

Hurricane bells used to hang from the tops of seaside trees, heavy bells designed to ring out only when a storm approached. Fittingly, Tonight Is The Ghost, the debut album from the band Hurricane Bells, is a moody affair. A mix of somber undercurrents and chiming guitars, the album is at once plaintive and triumphant, bathed in echo and reverb. Yet there's a looseness, hope, and soulfulness in its melancholic tempest; a late night thundershower with a new day on its heels.

Hurricane Bells is a new project from Steve Schiltz, singer and guitarist of Longwave for nearly ten years. After touring the better part of last year around Longwave's fourth album Secrets Are Sinister -- a critical success and arguably the best of the band's career -- Schiltz set up shop to create a new project with little else than his MacBook and an Mbox. He wrote, played, recorded, and mixed every note himself, arranging what would become Tonight Is The Ghost. Some songs were fully crafted within the past 18 months, while others are newly architected from pieces written throughout his years as a songwriter.

Fredrik is a sound artist / songwriter duo of dimension-travelling forest foxes. Fredrik (the latter) was born under a lake and sings. Lindefelt (the former) is from another planet. They now live in Sweden and create music with the help of darkness, wind, acoustic instruments, curiosity, nightmares and sound-making oddities. They release continuously in Europe, America and Japan and collaborate with a lot of different peoples and ideas.

A special concert to benefit the BERKELEY CARROLL school.

Keating's new release, "BELMONT" is songwriting at its purest. Tough and tender, the twang infused songs tell stories of hope and struggle with refreshing honesty, grit and timelessness. On her third independent CD release Keating has arrived as an international songwriting force.

CHRIS MILLS
A beautiful band name, The Twilight Hours. A beautiful band. Two beautiful men, in balance with each other. Savage flowers of masculinity. They are John Munson and Matt Wilson of Minneapolis (formerly of Trip Shakespeare). They are the world's foremost connoisseurs, students and historians of their own music.

After two highly acclaimed albums and four years of touring, Chapel Hill, NC's, The Old Ceremony, has built a large and loyal following. The band has performed with CAKE, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Chuck Berry, Polyphonic Spree, Mountain Goats, and Avett Brothers, and was included in PASTE Magazine's "Top 100 Albums of 2006."
FRI 3/19: 8pm / $10
With time on his hands between tours this spring, Michael Tarbox recorded some new songs. Many are brief, and most have spare, understated melodies. They've just been released on "My Primitive Joy," Tarbox's solo debut. Standouts include the title track, a gorgeous tangle of pedal steel that gains the world by letting it go, the coming of age tale Have You Been To The City? and the dream realms of At Dusk. Elsewhere, the sunniness of Whose Fault But Mine belies its story of apprehension and revelation. Tarbox's singing and vivid lyrics are front and center here, and the album's spacious production gives the listener plenty of room to engage them. Tarbox will hit the road to support "My Primitive Joy" in April.

David James Ford (formerly known as Dav Ford, born on 16 May 1978 in Dartford, Kent) is a British singer-songwriter, currently living in Eastbourne, East Sussex. He first achieved prominence with the indie rock group Easyworld, who released an independent mini-album, ...Better Ways to Self Destruct and two full-length albums on Jive Records before disbanding in 2004.

Ford branched into a solo career soon after, and has become known both for the sheer passion he puts into his songs, but also for being a master at the layered/looping effect he brings to many of his songs. He now has a large following having released two albums and toured extensively in the UK and US.

FRI 4/16: 8pm / $15
Surprise Me Mr. Davis is an electro-folk band consisting of singer-songwriter Nathan Moore (of ThaMuseMeant) and the members of avant-rock band The Slip. They formed in 2003 in Boston while Moore was visiting The Slip at their apartment and the Blizzard of 2003 hit. When they were snowed in, Moore and The Slip spent the time playing with home recording equipment, the result eventually becoming their self-titled album.
THU 4/22: 7:30pm / $12
Martin Luther King Chavez Dosh, known in music as Dosh, is a musician and multi-instrumentalist based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. As an artist, Dosh is a percussionist who uses various electronics, often with a Fender Rhodes. Dosh has been characterized mostly as experimental and electronic-based due to his use of many samplers and looping machines and the rhythmic feel of much of his music, with songs often relying on Dosh alone on keyboards, marimba, and drums. Dosh is often in collaboration with other musicians during live sets and on recording, both locally and nationally known.

Dosh's most recent release from May 2008 is Wolves and Wishes. The album features appearances from Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Andrew Bird, Fog, Odd Nosdam, and long-time contributors, Mike Lewis and Jeremy Ylvisaker.

ZEUS
BAHAMAS
They say that life begins at 40, but in the case of Jason Collett, that's not just some overly optimistic bumper-sticker slogan. To many indie-rock fans, Jason Collett is the wise, big-brother character in Broken Social Scene: the calm, cool, collected totem of stability in a band defined by drama and chaos "our Tom Petty figure," as BSS figurehead Kevin Drew once (half-jokingly) dubbed him.
