"The experience was incredibly cathartic, and having people come up to me afterwards and tell me how interesting and moving they found my story was as
gratifying as any compliment I have ever received about my research." -- David Carmel, Nature

and Special Guests!NPR Music calls Colin McGrath an "Itinerant Folk Orchestrator." Though based in New York City for the last eight years, he has been a musical explorer since he started making music. Fascinated by telling stories with lyrics and finding the right musical language to support them, his musical wanderings have led him to many countries, through many styles of music, to many different life experiences.
Colin has recently been featured on WNYC's Soundcheck with John Schaefer. In 2009 he won a hand-made Gallagher GC-70 guitar (valued at $4,000) for his performance at The Wildflower! Songwriting Competition. He was the 2008 Grand Prize Winner of The Listening Room Retreat Competition in Ben Lomand, CA, and the 2009 Winner of The Belfast Nashville Song-writing Festival Competition in Belfast, Ireland. He has been back to Ireland and UK since winning the competion to tour and to play The Belfast Nashville Festival again. He currently performs and tours solo, with his own band, or in a trio with Jason Harrod and Reid Maclean. The trio opened up for Martin Sexton in February 2010, and is featured prominently on McGrath's soon to be released album.

"These guys are probably the most fun band playing music in New York right now. They let everything go on stage, and that means buckets of sweat and
undeniably catchy rock tunes." - Pop Tarts Suck Toasted
Field Mouse is a four-piece dream pop band from Brooklyn, NY. Seamlessly interweaving influences from shoegaze, indie, and power pop, Field Mouse
offers lush sonic textures and expansive soundscapes to complement the airy, wistful vocals of singer/guitarist Rachel Browne. Through complex and
delicate harmonies, the songwriting of Browne and guitarist Andrew Futral breathes new life into common themes of lost love and renewal.
Started in December of 2010, Great Western Plain is the combination of childhood friends, and college classmates, coming together to play dirty, loud,
and messy garage rock.
Sincere, lyrically driven songwriting mixing folk integrity with pop sensibility.
"This Brooklyn-by-way-of-Boston lone wolf plays frail and beautiful with profound melancholy." - Rochester NY City Newspaper
In a live setting, The Field Effect is nothing short of a cannonball to the face. Adam's thunderous drumming has been likened to that of heavy-hitter, Dave Grohl, and often requires no microphones whatsoever. Bassist, Annie, breaks the female musician mold with tastefully-complex bass-lines as well as a vigorous stage presence. Nick's creative and catchy lead guitar work provides a perfect catalyst to the driving rhythm bed provided by Doug. On stage, The Field Effect emits a vivacity that commands audiences onto their feet and into motion. Chris Lorraine of Malinks and Withholders fame has been coerced out of retirement! From the Malinks to the Withholders, Lorraine has always remained a "musician's musician." Haunting chords are his first love. Influenced by punk guitar kingpin Robert Quine, mad genius Brian Wilson, and misanthropic Blur guitarist Graham Coxon--for Lorraine, the music came first - that is his story and the lyrics were the frosting on the post punk cake, as it were.
Chris Lorraine is back and ready to hit the Brooklyn scene, armed with old friend and killer drummer Rolling Stone contributor/editor Jon Dolan.

(Official NYC CD Release Party)Taylor Hollingsworth and Kate Taylor singing together is a match made in heaven, (or maybe hell, if the devil has anything to do with this, which would not be surprising). You might know Taylor from previous solo albums or bands but most likely from Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band. He was the guitar player who also wrote and sang Snake Hill and Air Mattress on the album "Outer South". If you've seen Maria Taylor play then you have most likely seen Kate in her band either playing keys, drums, or bass, and most importantly, harmonizing the soft beautiful back ground melodies. Nowadays, Kate and Taylor have joined hand in hand and formed a band. Ladies and Gentlemen, "Dead Fingers", might just be what you've been waiting for! In a time when guy-girl duo's are becoming quite popular, this one is not just some gimmick, however perfect the timing and package may be. You would almost think Kate was married to her manager, or record label exec., who was having them act like they were romantic just to sell tickets and albums. But in fact, this Alabama duo are recently married and the two just recorded their first self titled full length with Bruce Watson (RL Burnside, Junior Kimbrough, Iggy and the Stooges, AA Bondy), and is being released on Big Legal Mess/ Fat Possum Records early 2012. While showing a wide range of styles, ranging from duet styled songs like those of John Prine and Iris DeMent, X, or Lee Hazelwood and Ann Margaret, to straight up great classic rock bands like the Stones, Beatles, or even Traveling Wilburys, this band should find a nice home with fans of more current duo's like She and Him, Jenny and Johnny, or Civil Wars. "Leland Sundries, a band from New York led by Nick Loss-Eaton, is dedicated to storytelling in a way that recalls Woody Guthrie and his Folkways brethren. [Their] scrappy Americana will get you longing for empty two-lane highways and kudzu-encased back porches." - New York Times
"Oddball storytelling with a lo-fi country sensibility" - Time Out New York
This is our official NY CD release show for 'The Foundry EP.' We recorded in Greenpoint, Brooklyn in an old creamery building and I played resonator guitar, banjo, harmonium, harmonica, and vocals. We're planning touring and videos and I'll write an essay on each song. This time, we dip into folk darkness (a friend compared it to Nick Cave if he were fronting Bonnie Prince Billy's band), a sea chantey written after a Brooklyn waterfront fire destroyed part of the Greenpoint waterfront, a tongue-in-cheek rockabilly tune, and some NOLA-inspired ragtime with horn section. The songs of Louis Schefano.
"one of NYC's most awe-inspiring comedy/variety/brainz shows" - Brooklyn Vegan
"The band and the comics will all be performing together, the audience will be involved, special guests will be involved- the whole way through. And people's sins will be forgiven." - The Village Voice
Official Heart of Darkness AfterpartyNew Beard is a band that proudly doesn't fit into one small box. Their music features a stunning original voice (Ben Wigler) surrounded by a talented array of the most exotic musicians in New York. Gustav Ejstes joined towards the end of the production to lend creative input, performing background vocals and instruments throughout the album, in addition to mixing the entire album. The work is a product of the vision of Ben Wigler who's been a featured background vocalist for artists as diverse as Dead Confederate, Samantha Crane and The Indigo Girls.
A weekly comedy show hosted by Eugene Mirman and friends. Check back for full line-up.
On the last Monday of each month, Bare brings together storytellers, comedians, sex educators and others to share true tales from their own experiences
of sex, desire and romance. With stories as diverse as the people telling them, Bare opens doors to bedrooms, back seats and dungeons to tell what your
mama left out about the birds, bees and in-betweens.
Jefferson is the curator and host of Bare. A sex educator and writer, Jefferson keeps a pseudonymous blog, One Life, Take Two, that details his life as
a parent and pervert. He is a storyteller frequently seen on stages around the city and elsewhere, including The Moth, where he is a StorySlam winner.

Hailing from Brooklyn, NY, with roots firmly planted somewhere further south, SPIRIT FAMILY REUNION have comfortably lodged themselves in a niche lying
somewhere between the protest stylings of Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie, and the untamed bluegrass of Gillian Welch and David Rawlings. Tearing through
songs off their self released as well as self sold EP/songbook, they had every soul in the small room stomping, clapping and singing along to their
energetic brand of Americana. With the swagger of a man twice his age, the lead vocalist's ability to control a room is an extremely rare and very much
welcomed attribute to this generally tamed genre. With lyrics containing subject matter including God, the Devil, hard living and of love lost, they
never stray too far from the road laid out years ago on that end, but maintain a constant ability to keep everything fresh and modern with the energy
in which they put it on display.
For a band whose tenure only dates back to the Spring of 2009, New York's Vs.Antelope is comprised of a line-up that carries a long, but significant
history: As part of their respective roles with J.Majesty, jets To Brazil, Texas is the Reason, Retisonic, and Big Collapse, its memberes
have shared stages and floorspace, and Best Western breakfasts for the better part of the last 15 years. Which is, perhaps, why the profound sense of
connection and longing that so successfully permeates Vs.Antelope -the bands self-titled debut- is not so much the belabored work of four strangers and
a shot in the dark, but the sound of crystallized instinct.

"There's a lot of the Beatles, especially their piano pumping side, in the songs of Robbers On High Street, updated with Elvis Costello's gruffness and a matter-of-fact desperation."
- Jon Pareles, The New York Times
A weekly comedy show hosted by Eugene Mirman and friends. Check back for full line-up.
Tim Fite's show is like a multi-media multi-vitamin; at first, it looks like it might be a bit challenging to gulp down, but once you do, you'll feel
like a million bucks and won't want to wait for your next dose. Incorporating clever songwriting, compelling narrative projections, and vaudevillainous
showmanship, Fite's performance is wildly captivating. Every aspect of the seamless show is accompanied by painstakingly produced visual content that
makes the whole greater than the sum of it's many many many parts.
Tim Fite has garnered rave reviews and ravenous fans for his two proper albums released byANTI- as well as a few he's released on his own website timfite.com and iTunes for FREEdownload prior to those nice Radiohead fellows. In fact, Over The Counter Culture, a blistering, hip-hop based 15 track examination of commercial culture, has been downloaded over 100,000 times, and was named one of the best albums of the year by the likes of The Chicago Tribune, The Los Angeles Times, and NPR.
Oh, but there's so much more…a work in progress, a constant evolution, a growing up on record and on stage that several bio writers have come to tears over. There's blues, there's folky/indie/alt-country, there's Halloween records only available for download on October 31st, and there's tons of artwork, video, audience participation, and occasionally watermelons and gumball machines at select festivals. But in spite of it all, Tim Fite carries an unmistakable burden with an earnestness that is disarming, intimidating, and welcoming all at the same time.
Brown Shoe
is made up of four brothers-Aaron, Bryson, Ryan and Landon Baggaley-and Chandler Clemons who might as well be a
brother. Their previous three albums received broad radio play, charted on CMJ, and garnered numerous TV placements. In recent years Brown Shoe
has crisscrossed North America a number of times, playing festivals, clubs, and colleges, winning over a diverse fan base across the country. After
touring in support ofJackalope, Brown Shoe decided it was time to get back in the studio and begin recording the manically expansive and
treacherous tale,The Gift Horse (unreleased, 2011).
In the year since the release of the debut, and after whittling down the lineup from a 5-piece to 3, Freak Owls have brought their unique blend of
indie-folk-pop on the road to a majority of the US, as well as having played festivals in England, Canada, and as far away as Latvia. Selling out their
first few runs of cd's while placing multiple songs in film and on TV, including a number of songwriting nominations such as The John Lennon,
SongCircle, and 100% Music Songwriting Competitions, Freak Owls are gearing up to support the release of their new follow-up EP entitled,
"Orchestrates", which sees the trio expanding their sound to greater intensities and smaller intricacies.
Born as an ambient pop solo-project in the Adirondacks, Young Heel is now a vibrant experimental pop four-piece based in Brooklyn, NY. Heavy on the
beats and harmonies, Young Heel makes textural music that's both instinctual and challenging. They call it madrugada pop, and they want you to think
about it, but they'd prefer if you danced.
Marionette draws on lots of the off-shoots of the rock and roll movement - with equal admiration for the great songwriters and the more abstract, noise
acts that span across rock, psych, jazz, folk, alt-country, shoegaze, punk, whatever. Facing You is Marionette's (Richmond, Virginia) debut full length
and features strong songwriting and unique male/female harmonies set against soundscapes of reedy accordions, grinding feedback guitars, bow scraping
upright bass, hubcaps, half working organs and drum machines, field recordings, horns, and strings.
