The Occasionalists
The Occasionalists are a Brooklyn-based band of multi-instrumentalists specializing in live karaoke gigs in and around Brooklyn where we play ‘em and you sing ‘em. This will be the second in a continuing series of benefit shows and this one will be for the ACLU and DRUM (a Brooklyn-based immigrants rights group) http://www.drumnyc.org/. Warm up those vocal chords and get ready to rock for a good cause.

We’ll be playing songs from R.E.M.’s End of the World as We Know It to Bob Marley’s Redemption Song to The Beatles’ Revolution to Public Enemy’s Fight the Power to Bowie/Queen's Under Pressure to Zombie by The Cranberries and so many more.

TURNPIKE is an alt-country band from South Slope, Brooklyn. Their road-trip through Americana is powered by big harmonies, rolling beats, and poetic narratives. As lead singer and songwriter, Jeff Yas drives the unit with his original songs of family history and relationship confessions. In Bulletproof, Jeff takes us back to his hometown of Framingham, Massachusetts, exploring the wayward feelings of youth. In Finding My Place in Time, Jeff goes “digging through those basement drawers to find out where [he’s] from”. In I Never Knew What to Say Jeff voices the regret that comes from heartbreak. Ryan Parker is a jazz-influenced drummer and composer whose vocal range gives TURNPIKE their hidden horsepower. Ben Herzog plays stand-up bass with a playful bluegrass pace, rounding out the vocals on the tight curves. Ray Gehring has been cutting across all lanes as a jazz guitarist for 20 years, and gives TURNPIKE a timeless edge.
