Tatters & Rags
Tatters & Rags
"If you take your indie honky-tonk with a dollop of droney postpunk (and really, who doesn't?), then head to Park Slope tonight for eclectic local outfit Tatters and Rags." -- TIME OUT NEW YORK

"...the real draw here hails from, you'll never believe it, Brooklyn. Tatters and Rags deliver a batch of baroque country that catches you off guard. In a good way. hitches baroque pop with country." -- L MAGAZINE

"A lo-fi twang experiment with tinges of psychedelia, they play pastoral sea-side songs layered in textures of feedback, accordion, and violin. A group of scholars, history buffs, [and] international trouble-makers." -- TASTY WORLD

Tatters & Rags have been playing since 2008, at times being a drone post-punk folk band, other times being a sweaty, whiskey-fueled electric honky-tonk band. Fans of the band state that their eclecticism is part of their charm, and it's always accompanied by a frenetic energy that makes them one of the most exciting live bands in New York City.

And then there were voices; throats would be a better description, a battalion of throats that rang forth in a stark resonance that seemed to flood the room like an oily wave.

"Think of the sumptuous heartbreak deep in the American soul. Think of the powerful ache of yearning, the fleeting lightning-strike of joy. Think of late nights, steam rising off the street outside your 3AM window. Think of Sunday morning, steam rising off a river as slow and inscrutable as myth. We all live in this blend of spirit and mystery and damned hard reality, but fortunately, intersecting that very same crossroads, are the songs of Northern Arms, seemingly written with the express purpose of reflecting our most fervent dreams."

- Dave Cantrell, Stereo Embers Magazine
