Stand By Your Band Live!
Stand By Your Band Live!
Tom Thakkar and Tommy McNamara talk about the bands that Pitchfork attacks and your friends make fun of. The comics have on guests who love a band that everyone seems to hate, and together they give that band a fair chance.
Tom Thakkar
Tom Thakkar
Tom Thakkar is a comic living in New York City by way of Bloomington, IN. He is the son of a great lady and some Indian guy he never met. His personal, yet disarmingly silly style led to him winning the Bloomington Comedy Festival, held at the Comedy Attic in Bloomington, IN, and he’s been named one of the Best of the Midwest for Laugh Fest 2015 in Grand Rapids. He’s also been chosen to perform on the main stage at the Limestone Comedy Festival and Cincy Brew Haha Festival. Tom has been featured on Vice, NPR, and PBS, and recently he was named a “Comedian you should know” by Chicago Magazine.
Tom hosts the podcast, “Girls’ Night with Tom Thakkar”, which has gotten rave reviews from listeners all around the country, and it is consistently among the top 50 comedy podcasts on podomatic.com. He’s also been featured on The Todd Glass show and We Know Nothing with Nikki Glaser, Anya Marina, and Phil Hanley.
Tommy McNamara
Tommy McNamara
Tommy McNamara is a New York comedian. He is a Sports Headline Contributor for the Onion and was recently featured on The Comedy Show Show on Seeso. Tommy has performed at respected comedy venues all over the country, including: The Improv in Los Angeles, UCB in both New York and LA, Knitting Factory, The Comedy Attic, Zanies, New York Comedy Club, Gotham Comedy Club, Up Comedy Club, Second City, Laugh Factory Chicago (where he was a regular), and the Lincoln Lodge (where he was a cast member). Tommy has performed at San Francisco Sketchfest, Oddball Comedy Festival (Chicago winner of Funny Or Die's Road 2 Oddball Tour), Great American Comedy Festival, Devil Cup in NYC, the Crom Comedy Festival, the Comedy Exposition of Chicago, Thunderfest, and the 26th Annual Comedy Festival (AV Club/Onion). His show Tommy McNamara Unplugged sold out venues in both Chicago and New York. He misses you!
Josh Gondelman
Josh Gondelman
Josh Gondelman is a writer and comedian who incubated in Boston before moving to New York City, where he currently lives and works as a writer for Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. Onstage, Josh charms audiences using his good-natured storytelling and cracks them up with his sharp, pointy wit. He takes topics from surprise parties to his experience teaching preschool and makes them all equally hilarious. This spring, he made his late night standup debut on Conan (TBS), and he can also be seen on the first season of Night Train With Wyatt Cenac (SeeSo). Josh’s newest comedy album Physical Whisper debuted in March at #1 on the iTunes comedy charts (as well as #4 on the Billboard comedy chart) and stayed there for…well…longer than he expected, honestly.
Shalewa Sharpe
Shalewa Sharpe
Shalewa Sharpe is a comic in New York City. Originally from Atlanta, she has performed at The Star Bar, The Laughing Skull, The Atlanta Improv, The Creek & The Cave, and The Knitting Factory. Sharpe is the co-host of Thug Passion Presents, a live show where comedians perform table reads of classic black movies.
Sean Donnelly
Sean Donnelly
When he's not catching a nap with his bulldog, Rickles, Sean can be found headlining clubs all over New York, including Caroline's, Gotham, Stand Up NY, and the Stand. He has appeared on MTV's World of Jenks and the Late Show with David Letterman. Sean was a Comic Stand-Off finalist at the 2010 Magners Comedy Festival, performed at the Bridgetown Comedy Festival in 2011 and 2012, was a semi-finalist in the 2012 Boston Comedy Festival competition, and performed at Comedy Central's 2013 South Beach Comedy Festival. Sean was a Montreal Just for Laughs "New Face" in 2013. He co-hosts the podcast My Dumb Friends with fellow comedian Dan St. Germain, soon to be broadcast on Comedy Central Sirius, and hosts a weekly show at Alligator Lounge in Brooklyn. Sean can be seen regularly on the truTV series World's Dumbest and on the forthcoming season of Adam Devine's House Party on Comedy Central.
Mary Houlihan
Mary Houlihan
Mary Houlihan is a Brooklyn-based comedy writer, performer, artist, animator, and blonde woman. You might have seen or heard her on Difficult People, The Best Show With Tom Scharpling, or that one Martin Shkreli vid. Her writing, videos, and animation have appeared on Comedy Central, Adult Swim, Seriously.TV, and Reductress. She has been featured as a comedian to keep your li'l eyes on in Paste Magazine, TimeOut, Splitsider, Impose, and Bedford & Bowery. You can see her host the monthly shows Cartoon Monsoon, an episodic play with puppets 'n' stuff, and Future Forms, a stand-up/character/"???" showcase, both in Brooklyn.
Ashley Hamilton
Ashley Hamilton
Ashley Hamilton is a stand up comedian and writer from Chicago, IL but she started performing in sunny Los Angeles. In LA, she ran a monthly show at UCB Franklin, hosted regularly at the Chatterbox in Covina, CA, and performed at the Hollywood Improv. Recently, she relocated to New York City and can be seen performing 7 nights a week around the city. She has contributed writing and videos to ManRepeller.com and hosts a podcast called Hold on One Second We’re Talking About Britney Spears, the world’s only oral history of Britney Spears in podcast form. She has performed all around the country and recently appeared at the Broke LA festival in Los Angeles and The Big Sky Comedy festival in Billings, MT.
Claire Parker
Eudora Peterson
Eudora Peterson
Eudora is a comedian from New Jersey, but she performs in New York because the rules there are much more lax. For example: in New York, you can be a prop comic and people will still respect you, even if you don't have credits. That said, she's been featured on Splitsider, Jezebel, The Huffington Post, and she's *never* used a prop during a performance. Never.
Nick Naney
(Comedy Central)
Casey James Salengo
Casey James Salengo
Casey James Salengo is an NYC based comedian from the mountains of Vermont. He's performed in the Riptide Comedy Festival and the Brooklyn Comedy Festival. He's usually very polite.
Jordan Temple
Jordan Temple
